Home Brewing Biography: A co-worker of mine started making his own wine. Making my own beer is something I always thought about doing but figured it was too difficult and that I wouldn't have the time to do it. I stopped in my local brew shop and spoke with the guy there, he got me setup with my first wheat beer extract kit (truebrew), and all the equipment I'd need.

6 gallon carbouy
Gas cooker (Wally World sold it as a fish fryer)
4 gallon brewpot (an old lobstah pot I had)
Mortar/Pestle (grinding my spices)

Took an OG before I pitched my yeast (of all 16 gallons mixed together), 1.044...was shooting

ajwillys, you're right, I don't think there is any difference other than IMHO convenience. I
