Home Brewing Biography: Started making wine in 1989 with my roommate who decided to make beer. We were underage and poor college students, so we wanted a cheap and easy way to get our drink on when we couldn't get alcohol any other way. The roughly 3 week turnaround for beer vs 6+ months for wine convinced me to start beer as well. We dumpster dived for bottles and made some decent beer and wine (as well as some crap). Majoring in chemistry and having a love of cooking/food makes brewing a natural hobby for me. Once I graduated and had a career (i.e. some real income), all grain and everything it entailed commenced. Family stuff in the mid-2000's put the kibosh on brewing, but refound the spark in 2008 and haven't turned back.
