You probably didn't get a good mix of the priming sugar. So some bottles will probably be
overcarbed and others undercarbed. Just my .02 though. As you learn going through future
    batches, leaving the b...

  • Posted in thread: Strawberry Blonde Dilemna on 03-19-2013 at 08:41 PM
I add frozen berries to a 2nd bucket and rack on to them. For a 5 gallon batch, I use 6lbs of
whole frozen berries and the flavor is nice. Not strong but not weak either. You know you're
    drinking stra...

  • Posted in thread: A couple of questions about hops on 03-19-2013 at 08:38 PM
DId they supply the proper amount of Amarillo then? If not, they screwed up. If it's extra,
play around with it if you want.Add the 2nd at flameout, cool the wort and strain as you
    transfer to your pr...

  • Posted in thread: Force Carbonation with Kegerator at 20 PSI? on 03-12-2013 at 03:12 PM
It really is temperature dependent. If I'm in a huge hurry, I'll put the keg in my kegerator at
30 psi for 36 hours, then purge and reset for 12 psi. In three days, it's pretty well carbed
    but gets be...

  • Posted in thread: My first "bad" batch, or is Oktoberfest aweful? on 02-28-2013 at 04:39 PM
Is it a lager or ale? I think true oktoberfests are lagers. Can't help much right now with the
actual issue, just wondering if lagering or ale yeast have anything to do with it.

  • Posted in thread: Question about Coconut Usage on 02-25-2013 at 07:36 PM
I agree with everyone's posts above about toasting unsweetened coconut to the secondary.
However, just throwing it out there, you can also use coconut extract. I did a coconut porter
    last summer and d...

  • Posted in thread: Second Brew - Fermentation question on 02-25-2013 at 07:15 PM
I hear ya, but remember, airlock activity isn't the end all be all to fermentation. Like I
said, I have 3 primaries that never bubble even when I push on the lid, it looks like I have a
    seal as the wa...

  • Posted in thread: Second Brew - Fermentation question on 02-25-2013 at 06:30 PM
You could have slightly broken a seal and the gas is escaping elsewhere. I have 3 primarys that
rarely bubble due to a lacking seal. However, I've never had any issues with an infection
    before. You're...

  • Posted in thread: Forced Carbing. What am I doing wrong! on 02-25-2013 at 06:26 PM
I guess at room temp 35 isn't too terrible, but it still sounds overcarbed if you're foaming.
Leave it off the gas and purge the keg every time you walk by it for a few days. Check it after
    a few days...

^^^^ it has to do with the yeast. If I go too long without drinking any of my homebrew and then
have a few in a night, I get stomach aches. It goes away over time.
