  • I have two boys, 7 and 4, and a wife of 11 years. My three brewin' buddies and I have been brewing for a year, but I feel like I've learned many years worth of knowledge by trolling these forums. I'm very glad I stumbled upon HBT and hope that I've given as much help as I've received (no way!). rnrnMay all your krausens be high!

Leave it as it is. Theoretically, at this point you could boil some sugar in water and add that
to boost ABV. But why bother. It would change the character of the beer. Next time go with a
    recipe with...

I just recently experienced a problem where several batches kept tasting metallic as you
described. I posted here on a thread named "Bad Tasting Batches." For me it turned out that the
    problem was the...

  • Posted in thread: Forgot to take OG reading on 01-02-2014 at 04:09 PM
Your beer is fine. Sometimes it can take a while before visible fermentation starts. Also,
don't worry about forgetting the OG reading. Since it was an extract kit you can be pretty
    confident that the...

Thank you for all of the great posts/replies. My Hydrometer reading was 1.050 (Sorry, I put
1.05 in my OP...I didn't know or realize if the last zero was necessary!! But now I will know
    for future pos...

You will probably get multiple responses, so take it all in! :)First, I have been reading and
watched a "movie" called Brewing a Better Beer. Both places say that when you start fermenting,
    you should...

  • Posted in thread: Sanitizing question on 01-01-2014 at 08:21 PM
Maybe I'm missing something but it sounds like the OP is talking about sanitizing stuff
pre-boil. The only equipment that needs to be sanitized is the stuff that will touch the wort
    after it has been ...

Ready for the verdict? My APA has been kegged for a few days now, and I can confidently say that
the off flavor is GONE! Really, the only thing I changed for this last brew was to boil water
    in the ket...

I originally thought it was water related, but I switched from filtered hose water back to
water from my fridge and the problem did not go away. I suppose it could be chloramines in the
    local water su...
