I use a food grade plastic tote for primary fermentation of wines with a lot of must (grapes,
rhubarb, peaches, etc)I feel it has enough surface area for the cap to float, without it

FWIW, I use one of my keg pouring hoses with a drilled stopper and a bottling wand. Pretty much
have 0$ invested in those parts. Also get the PSI down to about 5 when filling bottles.
