  • Posted in thread: Force batch sparging with a bike pump on 05-05-2011 at 12:34 AM
Wheat malt has no husk to act as a filter bed like barley malt does. Thus the addition of rice
hulls to add some "filter media."I agree with Yooper, if your MLT drains that slowly you've got

  • Posted in thread: About to buy a burner - is Blichmann worth it? on 04-30-2011 at 10:53 PM
I had a Bayou Classic burner (it was a gift) that served me well for several years. It handled
boiling my five gallon batches just fine. But when I moved to 10 gallon batches it showed it's
    weaknesses...

I have a 15 gallon Blichmann (for 10 gal batches) and I love it!For five gallon batches I'd get

  • Posted in thread: Alabama Homebrew Legislation update (Wish 'em luck) on 04-27-2011 at 05:55 PM
It's not just in the interest of AB-InBev, it's also in the interest of the distributors. Even
if homebrew replaced 0.1% of beer consumed in Alabama, that's a lot of lost money for the
    brewers and the...

  • Posted in thread: Gordon Strong's New Book on 04-27-2011 at 04:22 PM
Is anyone going for the slippery slope argument that by extension, you need to be growing and
malting your own barley and growing your own hops to *truly* make your beer?Do I need to grow
    my own wheat...
