  • I live in East Texas.
  • I am new to brewing but not beer. Today is brew day for my 3rd batch. It will be a 5 gal batch of DME and malt. The first two batches are 2 gal kit beers which turned out good enough to make me want to upgrade to 5 gal. batches.

  • I started when I found a Mr B**r kit with refills for sale at a tool store. It was my Xmas gift to myself for the year 2008. It turned out ok but too small. I have one batch carbinating and one half batch ageing. I immediatly up graded to a 5 gal kit that I found on ebay. It is used and came with hundreds of extras like air locks, hydrometers, cleaning and sanitizing supplies ect, ect. I have also bought extra 5 gal fermenters.
    Kegging equipment and co2 cartridges came with the ebay kit but no kegs and no instructions so I will stick to bottling for the time being and read up on kegs and kegging as I go along.
    Today is brew day #1 for the 5 gal setup. I will brew this evening using DME and malt grain. I do not have a mill so I will have to break the grain up with a rolling pin and/or mallet. I have several types of yeast and hops on hand. I don't have the recipee in front of me right now but if the batch turns out well I will post it later.
  • I spent a couple of years in Germany while in the army. So my earliest experiences with beer (where I learned to love it) were with German largers from the local gasthaus. If I can find some recipees for the beer around the stuttgart/ludwigsberg area I will try to replicate those.
