    ABOUT ME

  • I'm an amateur photographer, videographer, motorcyclist and homebrewer. I'm also paid to do some photography and videography so maybe I'm not an amateur, but I'm not paid to brew or ride motorcycles...so that qualifier still applies. I have a long-distance brewing relationship, so I'm getting the wife into the sport to provide local support.
  • motorcycling,brewing beer,writing,photography,videography
  • Audiovisual/Communications in a governmental contract setting.
  • I used to get my kicks with aggresive hardcore and punk music, but my age is showing when half of my music seems to just be a guy and a guitar. I'm into everything from Poison Idea to John Prine. AA Bondy and Eef Barzelay are in heavy rotation.
  • I like Cohen brothers films, Wes Andersen films, documentaries and random fluff.
  • Everything I like gets cancelled. No one saw Bent, no one watched Prime Suspect. Both were fantastic, but seemed to be relegated to cancellation as soon as they started airing.
  • Jefferson's War, Ghost Wars, anything by Hitchens, fiction by Palahniuk, classic and new hard Sci Fi, alternate history junk. Love my nook, just don't find tons of time.
  • Started brewing with a partner using a standard bucket kit, switched from boxed recipes very early on into random experimentation. Moved into micro batch all-grain, turkey fryer 5 gal batches and finally to our TopTier 10g setup. Working on fermentation control and better kegging next.
  • Planning on doing some experimental soured and oak aged stouts.

Just so this thread can have a conclusion, I figured out what the noise was. Turns out that
Verizon FiOS has a battery backup unit (BBU) in their fiber modem they place in your house.

  • Posted in thread: Advantage of tier system? on 03-01-2014 at 02:05 PM
The benefit of a three tier system is to use gravity instead of electric pumps, keeping your
brewing simple and cost effective. The benefit of having a three tier system with burners on
    your HLT and b...

Take this with a grain of salt: NB/Midwest seems to love taking already available commercial
products, putting a trademarked name on them and then selling them at a markup over existing
    retail. If you...

The little kegs have to cool factor nailed. Are they hard to pour out of? The neck does not
look long enough to clear the other handle when pouring. It also looks like you may need 3

I think there was anecdotal talk here and there that a pump could overdrive the assembly and
shoot wort out, probably exactly what you're talking about. I didn't experience this myself,
    just heard tal...

There were issues reported when using an autosparge with a pump. Is this still not recommended
    with the new version?

By the way, bobby's diptubes are here: that the diptubes are reversable. You set up the tube
one way and it pulls from the center, you set it up the other and it can pull from the side.

I know each person has what their own ideas of what works for them but I love having my sight

Personally, after installing a sight glass on my boil kettle - i wouldn't do it again. Even
with a heat shield, the wort can easily boil out of the glass and make a mess. It's just one

The sub-question should be: If you could only choose between a commercial brewery and your own
home brew for the rest of your life, how many seconds would it take you to say homebrew?
