It was after my second deployment to Afghanistan that I took the plunge and started homebrewing. Two years of sobriety due to war drove me to a passion for homebrew!---I'll never be without beer again, now that I know how to make it!
Even though I couldn't brew when I was 'downrange', I tirelessly studied the art for nearly a year before getting back home and making my first batch. With some of my hard-earned deployment pay, I got a very nice set-up right off the bat. Due to time and space constraints, I'm only an extract brewer. My setup allows me to do 10 gallon full-wort boils. I like to experiment with 2 different yeast strains and add adjuncts when I move the 10 gallon wort into two 5-gallon fermenters. Someday I'll get into All-Grain I suppose, but right now I'm cranking out might tasty brews using simply extracts.... - Male
