    You can replace the ball valve with a 1/2" female pipe thread X 1 1/2" tri-clamp adapter. It
    will just tread right to the Blichmann weld less fitting. 13 bucks at St Pats

    +1 on moving the fan to the other end of your duct. I tried mine with the fan over the kettle
    with the same results as you. Switching it solved the problem although my duct is a good 15
    feet long.
