  • I tried 2 one-gallon batches of mead my senior year of college. Both turned out okay at best.rnrnA couple buddies at work (back when I was in the Navy) got me started brewing beer in 2001. Since then, I only brewed periodically due to space constraints from living in condos. I now have a full basement in which to brew and store/age my beer.rnrnRecent improvements have been the switch to all-grain (3-tier system), a kegerator and my (in-progress) fermentation chamber.

Snow drifts were crazy. Neighbor who worked the night shift last night managed to ramp his scion up onto a snow bank to get out of the street but it took an hour to get him into the cul de sac... 3 hours of snowblowing to clear
it. drifts the width of the driveway were 4-5' tall and a good 15' wide. Craziness.

Inside height I think is something like 35 or 36 inches. It's nice to have a little extra head space to wrestle Sankes in there and for the blowoff tubes to curve gently with adequate clearance, but you can probably measure that
and make the call based on what feels comfortable.



4'x4' is probably bigger than you will need. Mine is 48" by 38" and will hold 4 Sankes. That's pretty large. Ideally I would have 2 chambers that could be operated
independently and each would hold up

What size compressor or chilling element you using? 4x4x3 is a good chunk of space to cool. I used the pink 2" extruded polystyrene and my little compressor runs quite a bit to keep up.

The Pliny-ish clone is still in the fermenter. I think at the end of this week I'll drop in the dry hops and let it sit for another week before bottling. However, I stole some out of the carboy with a wine thief last week and it
is tasting promising. You thinking about brewing it?

Ace, gotta remind ya that yer plans for no brewing in the winter are flawed. My tap water is 39 degrees right now and I took 13 gallons to less than 60 degrees in just a few minutes this past weekend.

That sounds good to me. Phillip, Leida, and I had one a few weeks ago before they went to Costa Rica. I need to brew soon but I am toying with finishing the basement, which would throw a wrench in my brewing schedule. What
timeframe you talking about? Late July or early August?
