    ABOUT ME

  • CFO at Chicago Architecture Foundation
  • Aaron Andersen
  • Started with a Mr. Beer starter set that my wife got me for Valentine's Day. Then I upgraded in cooperation with some friends, and we now brew 5-gallon extract kits and mini-mashes, and tinker around with them. I am now stepping into all-grain, too.
  • I want to find an all-grain recipe I really like, and then try it over a few times to master it and learn to tinker with it. I think saisons make a great base for tweaking and augmenting, so maybe I'll go with that.
  • None
  • Oaked bourbon porter with vanilla bean
  • All-grain SMaSH APA with 2-row pale and Galaxy hops; Surly Cynic partial mash clone; Irish heavy extract - not so great; Some aging Mr. Beer trippels - even worse

All told in the end, I was trying to sneak in a brew day and the misses wanted my help with
other stuff, notably the 2.5 month old brewers assistant. So lots of shortcuts and some spills
    and some hicc...

Curious if anyone has encountered this before. Just did my first all grain with a new set up.
Put altogether about 10 gallons of water through the mash tun. Only wound up with 3 gallons in
    the ferment...

@jpmess I agree about the fumes. Probably the clearcoat. I used the needle valve to fine tune
and kept the regulator on the gas open. I also had issues with a low tank, as I mentioned
    before. It defin...

I finally got a chance to use my new Edelmetall burner. It's great. I think the actual burner
component is the same as in the Blichmann, so I'm not surprised that it's powerful and quiet
    and very easy...

I noticed the other night that my order history has also disappeared. All of it. I suspect a
web software change. A little warning posted up on the page would be nice, though, if that's
    the case.

My neighbor noticed me brewing one day and came by. Turns out he is a home brewer as well, and
so we've talked here and there. There are a few golden nuggets that he has said to me.1. The
    first day he...

Anybody have a good suggestion for a nice, simple, "hard to screw up" recipe for a first timer?
Maybe something a little forgiving?I expect the first time to go through some learning about

Don't forget: stouts are "roasted not malted" and Oktoberfest has moved from September back to
    October.
