    ABOUT ME

  • CFO at Chicago Architecture Foundation

  • Started with a Mr. Beer starter set that my wife got me for Valentine's Day. Then I upgraded in cooperation with some friends, and we now brew 5-gallon extract kits and mini-mashes, and tinker around with them. I am now stepping into all-grain, too.
  • I want to find an all-grain recipe I really like, and then try it over a few times to master it and learn to tinker with it. I think saisons make a great base for tweaking and augmenting, so maybe I'll go with that.
  • None
  • Oaked bourbon porter with vanilla bean
  • All-grain SMaSH APA with 2-row pale and Galaxy hops; Surly Cynic partial mash clone; Irish heavy extract - not so great; Some aging Mr. Beer trippels - even worse

It's not beer, but I grabbed a couple gallons of local apple cider, dumped it into a fermenter
and pitched some Wyeast 1469 that I had sitting in the fridge from a previous batch. This is my

They sent me the wrong pipe nipples for a cooler HLT/MLT valve kit. They sent me the right ones
right away and told me not to bother sending back the wrong ones.

I've noticed Giant Eagle carries a lot more brands of ciders these days. Lots of them
advertising on cable TV seems to be the reason. Might be a good place to try some different
    ones?:mug:There's a re...

I've never seen my brother in law drink any alcohol. He said today that he doesn't drink
because unless it's Bud Light, Miller Light, etc, he doesn't know what it is that he'd be
    drinking, and those b...

keezer/kegorator that I also plan to use as a fermentation chamber. Will this make a good

I actually find Shiner Bock to be quite a nice beer. Specially if its free! That's the only
Shiner beer that doesn't taste bad to me.

Brewed a Black IPA extract and a Surly Cynic partial mash... both from NB. First time mashing
anything other than a potato. We'll see how this goes. :rockin:I've made both of those. The

Attended a local home brew club meeting for the first time last night. About 4 or 5 guys
brought great stuff, including a spot-on Octoberfest, a really good swartz beer, and a Earl

Finally bottled the Northern Brewer Kama Citra session IPA. I over sparged, then over-boiled,
and ended up with about 4.25 gallons, so it came out at about 5.6% ABV... not exactly session
    strength. Al...
