  • Posted in thread: How do people use PBW and starsan? on 08-02-2015 at 07:14 PM
PBW is used for cleaning only. It does not sanitize. I use it to clean kegs, carboys, and
various parts of my Mash Tun and Boil Kettle. Star Sans is a no rinse sanitizer. It is used
    like us old timers...

  • Posted in thread: Brewing my First Oktoberfest. Protein Rest Questions... on 07-25-2015 at 07:47 PM
How I have never brewed one of my favorite German beers in 22 years of brewing is beyond me,
but damn I am already excited to brew this beer. For my first time ever, I will be using a
    Protein rest in ...

  • Posted in thread: Could Someone Please Explain the Benefits of a Stir Plate? on 07-25-2015 at 02:31 AM
No, you should only be leaving your starters for 24 to 48 hours no matter which method you use.
There is a given saturation level of yeast cells in a starter for the amount of dissolved
    oxygen, nutrie...

OK, thanks for the reply. Would it make sense to bring the secondary back up to 50 deg for a
few days to let it finish?I wouldn't. Let the yeast sleep. You do not have enough yeast in the
    secondary to...

  • Posted in thread: Could Someone Please Explain the Benefits of a Stir Plate? on 07-22-2015 at 10:11 PM
So, with my recent starter debacle, I have started thinking about MAYBE getting a Stir Plate.
All I know about a stir plate is that it add very much needed oxygen to the starter. Also, it

  • Posted in thread: How to go about re-pitching on 07-20-2015 at 01:47 AM
I know I'm jumping the gun (brewed these for a wedding in 4 weeks so they need to take haha).
It was supposed to be more of a question of, if I do have to repitch, do I make a small starter
    to wake th...

72 hours before you start to get worried. Me, if I had to repitch, I would brew a simple, small
2 quart starter, and once it is going good, pitch the entire thing into the carboy.

  • Posted in thread: WLP820 Starter Queery on 07-19-2015 at 10:34 PM
Thursday night, July 16th, I brewed up a 4.50 Liter starter with 450 grams of Extra Light DME,
twice. One for each carboy. Normal fair for me. I have been brewing for 23 years, and have been
    making ye...
