You don't have to boil to sterilize, something like 178-180 for 5-10 minutes should be fine.

Well the results are in. I can't say I had any bjcp judges involved in tasting but presented
the beer to about 30 people. Each person was given 4 glasses of beer, one of each type with the
    4th glass b...

  • Posted in thread: No bubbling, I perhaps killed the yeast? on 01-13-2013 at 01:21 PM
relax, if I had a dollar for every fermentation that went off in 3 hours Id be broke. Give it a
day or two. Anyway bubbling doesn't mean much, I had a fermentation where the seal on my bucket

    1968 cake ...

While Im sure you can skip decanting I think optimal for yeast production would be to decant
between steps.I was just reading something about how optimal yeast reproduction occurs at
    1.036, post 16 on...

If that calculation is correct, and I see no reason why it shouldn't be correct, then you hit
1.058ish for an OG giving you a 25% efficiency from your mash, yuck! At around 70% efficiency
    you should h...

Thanks bob, For the record all my grains are actually Weyermann (caramunich/caraaroma for
C60/C120) and Weyermann Pale Ale.With the 10% darker crystal malts and 25% toasty deeper malts
