I can remember that there was a time when dry yeast was frowned upon in home brewing. I think
we need to give this technology at least a chance and see for ourselves one we can try them
    out. I'm actua...

For most places, well water tends to be higher in alkalinity and hardness. But it is also more
stable throughout the seasons. I'm getting 404 on the link.As for detecting seasonal changes, I

The problem is that you need to dry the yeast. You could try a food dehydrator if the temp
stays below 40 C. But that means an additional piece of equipment is needed. If the receiving

  • Posted in thread: So BYO mag says we want pH 5.2-5.6 at MASH TEMP, not room temp. on 03-26-2013 at 04:31 PM
I was hoping that we can move away from the whole pH at mash temp discussion since it is
somewhat irrelevant. I don't even think that the 0.35 pH shift is correct.Kai

Geez, I thought we were over that and the folks that write for BYO are knowledgeable enough to
that the 5.2-5.6 target applies to a room temp sample.I don't subscribe to BYO, so I should not

Kaiser, I have followed you on HBT since 2007, and then on your blog. I hold you in high esteem. Instead of sharing the ignorance one finds on HBT, you are a shining light in the home brew arena. Thanks for all of the effort and truly helpful information!

Did you study Brewing Science in Germany? I spent 6 months in munich last year and made friends with a young man who was studying Brewing Science at Technisches Universitat Munchen and was surprised to find just how intensive this program of study can be.

Either way, you give great advice and instruction in a very easy to understand manner. Thanks for bein the Bier Kaiser, and keep doin what your doin!
