  • Personal favs include The Shooter, Matrix, True Grit, Saving Private Ryan, A Walk in the Clouds, Faster, Drive Angry, etc.
  • I do not watch TV . . . too much garbage. Although I do watch the occasional show on Netflix or Hulu, sans commercials. Lately, it has been Walking Dead, Terra Nova, etc.
  • Anything by Edgar Rice Burroughs, prefer Sci-Fi & Fantasy. James Patterson is ok, just getting to be like a Harlequin, very repetitive
  • 1997 - moved to TN. New Landlord made wine and dabbled in beer. Asked me to research and "fix" a Canadian Lager for him. It worked, and I have been hooked ever since. Moved to Alaska in 2006, actually stopped brewing for a couple years, then a young man came to me on his wedding night and asked me to show him how to brew . . . How's that for dedication, LOL . . . been brewing in Alaska ever since. Started making wine and looking into specialty brews. These odd brews are becoming the new rave, so I figured I had better start doing it . . . I still brew the old faithful general "swill" for the inevitable Friday night drunk, but having fun all the time. So far, I/we are still just doing the old 5-7 gallon batches, and bottling by hand. We are looking to get into kegging soon, from there it only gets bigger.

  • Posted in thread: Can I just never buy yeast again? on 10-17-2012 at 06:09 PM
I guess it is all about what you want to do. Personally, I have never seen bad results from a
dry yeast packet. At $1.69 per packet, I think I will stay with that. I have tried the wet
    vials and the s...

The extracts they sell in brewshops is non-fermentable (at least all the ones I have seen are)
while the coffee flavoring has loads of sugar and potential fermentables. The preservatives in
    the coffee...

  • Posted in thread: Mother in laws!? on 10-17-2012 at 05:23 PM
When it comes to in-laws, I am a royal prick. When they want to be decent, I am decent . . .
when they want to be intrusive, I become very abrasive. They usually don't stay for long after
    that. My bes...

  • Posted in thread: Extract brewing recipe - can this be right? on 10-17-2012 at 05:13 PM
I have brewed that exact recipe before. If you add the sugar, it will boost the ABV a bit but
add virtually nothing to the flavor. If you use DME, it adds to the ABV and it also adds more
    flavor to th...

I am off this week and next, so I will be brewing a bunch. A friend asked me to show him the
ropes of homebrew . . . made my day! Of course, for his first brew, he wanted to go
    complicated. He shows m...

. . . for the darker brews I use a 7-gal carboy. Darker brews tend to have more "explosive"
start up. I wouldn't worry about lost yeast . . . just watch your hydrometer readings. You do
    not get a bett...

Nut House Brown Ale . . . recipe courtesy of Arctic Brewing Supply, Inc. in Anchorage, AK. This
seems to go best with a nice Steak & Potato dinner, but I like it all the same.7 lbs Light Malt

  • Posted in thread: If you could share a pint with anyone, who would it be? on 10-14-2012 at 08:34 PM
Like many others, when I first read this question, my mind went totally blank. I was like,
"WTF? Is there nobody I would toss back a pint or three with?" Then my mind went on a tirade of
    listing out a...

Good advice here...drill at slow speeds with oil to cool it. Cutting oil is not for lubricant,
it is for cooling. Make sure you have a drill bit designed for metal and drill slow with decent
