  • How / Why did I get started homebrewing? Easy: It was the wife. I've been making home-made soft drinks since High School (Root Beer, Ginger Ale -- that sort of thing), and have been going pretty strong ever since in the soda world. But, SWMBO made the observations that 1) I was forty-two years old and 2) I needed to grow up and 'Brew something real'. She then presented me with a gift-certificate to the nearby LHBS, and I've been here ever since.

    I don't think anybody calls Buffalo 'Downstate'. "Western New York" is the accepted and
    preferred term. It's about as far as one can get from "Downstate" and still be within New
    York's borders.
