  • My brother got into home brewing and thought it was really interesting. He talked me into trying it one time, and when I came into town, he gave me a home brew kit for my 30th birthday. That was in April of 2010 and I have just taken off from there. I would still be doing partial grain brews today if it were not for a friend of mine that really got me interested in this stuff and taught me how to all grain. Now I am just playing with it and trying to perfect my methods and brew beer.
  • I am going to keep trying different things until I find the beer that I will call my signature beer. You know, then one that you always have around that everyone loves.

I agree with duboman. You need to take your time with learning the process before you jump in
head first. I brewed at least 5 kits and probably 15 total partial grain beers before I ever
    started with ...

The hops can still escape from the paint strainer bag. So the sludge could be a mix of hops,
cold break, hot break, and even some grain from your mash. The hops are easy to notice because
    they are sti...

Well, I know I'm the one who started this and I was confused myself, but since I posted this
original question I have tried a few new things that seem to work just fine. First of all, I
    don't concern ...

When Whirlpooling, do you wait until the wort is cooled or do you do it when it is hot? I have
heard concerns about airation problems if the wort is cold, but not as much of a problem when
    it is coole...

I think I will have at least one that I will enter, and maybe 2 or 3. This is going to be
great. I have never entered a competition before and this will be a great way to find out if
    anyone else likes...

Thanks for the input. I do somewhat filter my wort when transferring to the primary, so I am
sure that helps some. I use a standard strainer and a funnel with a screen in it to keep as
    much of the hop...

Ok, so I have been reading in Palmer's "Learn to Brew" about cold break. As I understand it,
this is important to have a clear beer. The thing I am not understanding is how to keep it out
    of the beer....

Cyber thanks. I am not sure if I am going to do the diacetyl rest or not. But if I do, I will
probably just do it in the fridge and turn the controller up to 70 or so. If I dont do it in
    the fridge, I...
