  • After a 20+ year hiatus from home brewing I am back with a renewed enthusiasm for this craft that I left long ago. I got detoured into the wonderful world of wine, but it has become a commodity that I can no longer afford, so as they say "necessity is the mother of inventions" and its back to brewing! Within the last month I have brewed 4 extract batches and I am looking forward to progressing to AG brewing after attending an upcoming AG brewing course at UC Davis.

Marty... Take a couple FG reading over the next couple of days to see where it's at. If it is a
points or two (+ or -) within the expected FG of 1.014, then I'd say its ready to transfer to
    keg. If yo...

Overall I am happy with my two purchases from KC. They were well packaged, shipped on time and
quality products. My only gripe would be that a couple of months ago I tried to get a hold of

Todd, that should not stop you from brewing up this tasty treat. Just go partial mash with this
recipe. I'm not sure how much your can hold in your MT? So just substitute 0.75lb of LME for
    every pound...

Made a 5 gallon AG batch for the neighborhood Halloween party and the keg didn't last the
night. I did add my own twist by soaking 2oz. medium toasted Hungarian Oak soaked in 4oz of
    Capt Morgan spiced...

Thanks, Yooper, for the advice a while back on using alternative malts to TF. This was my first
AG version of your recipe and while I had a couple of hiccups, I really enjoyed what victory
    malt and Pa...

Danndry, there is no smokiness to this porter. I don't have any experience with smoked grains,
but I have read that Peat Smoked malt is pretty strong and most recommend 1oz - 4 oz per 5
    gallon patch. ...

This was my first mini-mash and it gave me the confidence to go AG. Basically followed it as
described, albeit a little change in grains for mini mash. Managed to mash a little cooler than
    planned, bu...
