  • Started brewing on 11.21.10. Since then, I have brewed approximately 175 times with a mix of extract kits, Partial mash, but mostly All-Grain. For a while, I was brewing every weekend! rnrn I participate in bulk grain buys and am actively trying to coordinate my own through a new local brewery. I love this sh*t!!! rnrn Now I own a bunch of great equipment and there's no turning back. I've built ferm chambers, my own single tier brew stand, and my keezer shown in my avatar.
  • All grain Extra Pale Ale with 3oz of Cascade.
  • Two 5gal carboys with an Extra Pale Ale recipe.
  • Nada. I do not believe in the need to dirty a second fermentation vessel or the risk of infection.
  • Never bottled, always kegged
  • I have 5gal of American Pale Ale, 5gal of Ole Fuggle Bastard Ale, and 5gal of my other frankenale that I made. All in my 9cu/ft Keezer and on tap.

It's been quite a while since I took part in a group buy but as soon as you have another one
lined up, I need at least 6 sacks of pale ale. :mug:

OK. So I have an update to my issue. I moved the first of my two 5gal buckets to keg and force
carbed using an air stone and I am very proud to report that the American Pale Ale is
    absolutely deliciou...

So you underpitched by about a third. You needed 18 g, but you only pitched 11 g. It's
obviously not ideal, but I never checked pitching rates when I first started out and I still
    made drinkable beer....

What size was the yeast packet? Mr Malty says you needed 163 billion cells and there are
roughly 230 billion cells in an 11.5 g packet, so assuming 100% viability, you under pitched by
    about 50 billio...

My first attempt was the same way. My efficiency was horrible and came in at 1.040 and was Very
weak and no prominent pumpkin flavor was discernible. I brewed it again last weekend and
    decided I would...
