  • Im from Orkney and when I was younger nearly everybody in the community was home brewing there own beer and I plan on continuing that tradition even though it died out with the easyness and cheapness of supermarket beers but there are still plenty of people in Orkney home brewing.

    This is the only one that I havent brewed yet. I am a begginer and dont really use gravity
    readings even though I know I should.

    Yes I have a long time ago, but yes they malt there own barley using the floor malting method.
    If you look at my Traditional Orkney Ale thread it explains a old traditional style of malting

    This recipe is actually a combination of some traditional Orkney recipes and Fraoch (heather
    ale). This is a full mash recipe as you dont get extract bere malt, but light LME would be ok
    but obviously...
