  • Watched a friend brew, then made him buy me the ingredients and write me instructions.. brewed an oatmeal stout.

Bought a kit, along with another oatmeal stout and an IPA ingredients. Fell in love. After two more extract batches (Caramel Cream Ale and Barley Wine), I built a MLT. Brewed my first to AGs back to back, homemade Robust Porter recipe and a Traditional Hefeweizen.

Just had my first big screwup on my third AG. I was making a Foreign Extra Stout and stirred to hard, pulled apart a piece of my manifold and had a serious stuck mash. I had to try and pour 9ish gallons of grain and water into a 8 gal bucket, wound up dumping 1/5 or so of it on the ground. Fixed the manifold, dumped it back in and came out with a SG of 1.043 when I was shooting for 1.07*. Oh well, I'll have a regular oatmeal/rye stout I guess. I learned from my mistakes though, I need to do a little more work on my manifold.

I LOVE honey malt. I've used it in two brews. 1lb both times and it came through very well and
not overpowering in my opinion. But I like full flavors.
