Hello everyone, new to the forum with an interesting question. Brewed up my first batch ever a week ago. Topped off the primary to 5 gallons and set at 65 degrees for a week. I just racked to secondary and theres only 4 - 4.5 gallons of beer! Is this a normal statistic? Where's it go!?

thanks in advance,
Brian

did you leave a little behind with the sediment? A couple of inches in a large container can be equal to as much as a gallon. Just a thought.

I would go ahead and leave that behind, by the way. You don't want to end up with yeast bite.

Next time top off to 5.5 gallons to make up for loss due to sampling and wastage left behind with the trub.

will diluting to 5.5 gallons affect thebeer in the long run?

Thanks!
~Brian
