Hi all,

Great forum and it looks like a bunch of great folks use it. It seems like most of you are in the US.

I'm from the UK, Warrington near Manchester and Liverpool.
I've just ordered my first kit an hope to be brewing real soon. I love sampling guest beers in the local pubs. Most have a few on each week and I buy ales to drink at home.

Hopefuly in a month or two I'l be drinking my own. I have a lot to learn and still don't know what all the "words" mean so please forgive me if my questions seem dumb! I'm sure I'll learn alot from this forum.

Thanks in advance.

p.s. I've started a Beer Blog , mainly just to keep my info in one place.

No worries - first off, lots of folks from across the water hang here. You need to be wary of them, though, for they are a cunning lot. Very soon - in a month or so, I am guessing, judging by when your brew should be done - they will be dropping unsubtle hints about initiation parties and the like. Be cautious - this is their way of getting invited over, at which time they will drink all your new beer.

There may also be a few folks who may make a poor attempt at humor in response to one of your posts. What ever you do, don't express amusement at them or they will feel encouraged and will take such attempts to ridiculous lengths. On the other hand, you have to be careful not to be too aloof either, because they will only redouble their efforts.

It is probably wisest to simply express bemused indifference as best you can.

:D

Hi, I'm from Ireland, but I know there's a handful of ppl from the UK here too.
This is a great place to find loads of info. One word of warning though, you'll find yourself spending more and more time looking through posts here. It starts to take over.... Hmmmm. Better do some work methinks!
Welcome

Ha Ha,

Not much chance of that. I managed to get to sleep at 4.30am and the courier arrived with my brew kit at 7am.
I'm just creating a log spread sheet then I'm off to play.

a courier arrived at 7am???? Man I'd be well miffed if that happened! Sure I wouldn't even have turned off the alarm for the first time by then! bloody hell!. how did you hear the bell???

Greetings and welcome the boards, orfy. As Steve mentioned, there are a number of folks from the UK around.

I second the caution against humor and repeated viewing of this site within any given day. They can both be habit forming and dangerous to your overall mental health. ;)

Welcome to the Forums , Orfy . This is really a great place to learn and help others to do so. I think that the weak and repeated attempts at humor( or something to that effect) remark was aimed at me. I suppose I'm the resident loud, obnoxious drunk in the corner. My apologies to all. My advice is this: Don't drink and post. :D

Monkey

Sorry. I get sleepy early. Actually , I like to read myself to sleep, and if I'm not in the cage by the time Mrs. Monkey turns in, she turns out the light . Glad to be here with both of you again.

Joke if you will, Suds. You're holding him up, and the next round's on you.

Don't let go Man. I'm not holding him up.. I'm too busy keeping this table from spinning.

I'm glad to see I'm in good company.
I post on another forum and you can always tell when the beer and whiskey drinkers have had the od one or two. I guess on here that's all the time.

Glad you see the method to the madness, Orfy. There's room for several more at our table. Sorry about last night, guys. I got bumped offline by some little girl calling for Monkey Jr.( The little stud). Down here in the woods, all we have is dial-up. We consider ourselves lucky to get that.

I know it's a pain, but you've got to get them jr.'s their own phone line. It's much cheaper than repairing the wall after you've ripped the phone out of it.

I see your point. I'm kinda waiting for him to get one on his own. Uses my phone, uses my computer, eats my food. breathes up all my air. Didn't know what I was getting into when I told Mrs.Monkey, "It'll be allright !" . :D
