Just tasted my first brew....it's fantastic!!! :p Tried a simple kit (Woodfordes Norfolk Nog) to start...seemed like cheating, but I wanted to walk before breaking into a jog. Tried brewing many years ago at University in my Halls, every Tom, Dick, and Harry stuck there nose in my fermenter so got an infection and the result was only fit to sprinkle on my chips (fries).

This brew is getting better with every pint I pour from the keg... :D

Anyway, I am totally hooked on Homebrewing now! Gonna try an extract brew with Cascade hops next. I am considering getting a secondary (glass carboy)...are the results using a secondary worth the investment?

I've never used one and I still get the same results as you did - the best beer I ever drank. But I'm curious about them.

IMO, yes, they are worth it!

I believe it helps mellow the flavors by getting your beer off the trub (the spent yeast and 'stuff' that falls to the bottom). It also helps the beer to clear. For a typical ale, I usually rack it to the secondary after primary fermentation has slowed and keep it there for 14 days or longer.

I'm all for secondary just because then I can get another batch going in the primary.
