Default Root beer refridgeration

I'm making my first batch of root beer and right now it's in my refrigerator in a carboy.

I mixed it all together, pitched the yeast, it aged about four days, and now it's in the fridge cease anymore fermenting (I think that's what the guy at my brew store said); I forgot to find out how long it needs to be in the fridge for, and also what to do when I take it out. Does it go right in bottles or can I keep it in the carboy for a couple more weeks while it continues to age? I just don't want any exploding bottles!

Thanks
