there is a 2-liter/20oz fitting for a ball lock system that would work perfectly for your purpose. It costs about $12 and there's virtually no way to pop a plastic soda bottle so long as you stay within the normal soda pressure range Here's a link but I've never used this supplier, so take it as proof the product exists, not an endorsement of the supplier:

I will test a couple of bottles myself and post results. I did buy a case of pet bottles and caps. I'm just curious now on the results of soda pressure and beer bottle glass.
