They taste good. But, you'll need a dedicated soda keg, especially if you do anything resembling root beer. Root beer and most of the darker colored flavors will impregnate their flavor and aroma into ever o-ring and liquid line in your keg system.
Soda is also highly carbed, you'll need like 22 feet of tap line to balance out the pressure or you'll serve foam and flat soda.
plenty of guys here do this, especially the ones with kids. just know what you're getting into
