Default Diet Soda

So I am looking to make my wife some Ginger Ale and my son some Rootbeer, but I do not want to use sugar. Has anyone tried the recipes listed here on HBT with Splenda or Stevia? Both my wife and me are Diabetics, so I am looking for an alternative for the sugar. I have read that Splenda can be used 1:1 substitue for sugar and Stevia would be more of a .25:1 with sugar. My fear with Stevia is an after taste.

I have used both, and had the same concern about Stevia. I used it last night in a small batch of root beer and cream soda, and I really enjoyed it. No noticable aftertaste.
