After some research I learned that upstate ny was once tge top producer of hops in the world. The region is not too far from where I am now so perhaps I have a good chance of planting a few varieties and bring in a good harvest next year or the one after.

Check with NeHA...http://nehopalliance.org. They should be able to tell you what grows.

Otherwise, get a hold of Larry at Foothill Hops and tell him Dan from Gorst Valley sent you. If you have time, stop out to their place, look around and pick up some of their Spiced Northern Brown Malt and Hops Mustard. Soooooo good on pretzels.

Just call ahead to make sure they are open. They have a gift shop (with the mustard) but its not their full time job. So I don't know what the hours are.

If you've got a SWMBO, they used to have these awesome hop earrings that I got for mine. OK, I thought they were awesome...she just said, "Oh how...uhm...thanks."

What does swmbo stand for...also I have seen a lot of BMC in reference to what I believe is domestic beer. The letters could be slightly off.

Boy, that's kind of like cheating. You need to learn the terminology the old fashioned way...searching. Just search on SWMBO and you'll figure it out. I'll give you a hint. The "S" stands for "she".
