Default Time Lapse Video of a Growing Hops Bine

I made a 2-hour time lapse of the hops plant in my office yesterday. You can see it reaching out circling looking for something to grow on. I figure it makes a full rotation every hour and a half. I would be interested to know if that rotation period changes through the course of the day/plant cycle. Does anyone know? These things grow FAST!

I believe Charles Darwin claimed it took 2 hours per rotation. But I believe he was watching a more mature bine as it grew outside of his sickbed window. It wouldn't surprise me if a new shoot moved a bit faster.

This is really great. I always assumed that the bines simply followed the sun - creating one rotation each day - and returned at night. I wonder if different varieties have different cycles? May need to set up my time-lapse camera.

And thanks GHV_Dan. I had no idea that Darwin studied hops: http://darwinsflowers.wordpress.com/...imbing-plants/

Supposedly he was stuck in bed with an injury or sickness and had nothing better to do than watch a hop bine growing outside of his window. So he took measurements on how fast it grew, how long it was per rotation, etc. I suppose if you can't watch "The Price is Right" you have to do something.

Thanks guys, this stuff is interesting. I now have more reading to do. This setup found at nagmay's link shows the way Darwin got around not having a time-lapse camera. Pretty neat and simple system!
