Default Splitting Hop Mound.

I have second year Cascade coming up like crazy. If I were to split the mound in half would they continue to grow like crazy or would they grow like first year hops?

They'll grow better than first years, but not as good as if you left it intact.

Anytime you split roots, it's like taking away half of the plants stomach.

That's what I was afraid of. I don't want to start over the second year.

Well I cut some rhizomes from around where the new sprouts are coming up. They had fine little roots but no sprouts or even nubs. Do you think they have a chance?

I did what you're thinking of doing last year with great success. Here's the link:

All three plants did very well and it could be the raised beds but I got a larger harvest (~lb. total) from all three together. Most I'd gottem from the original plant in a year was about 6 oz. But that was just in the ground and that area gets pretty saturated from runoff this time of year.
