Default Problem with Magnum hop vines this year

Folks,
I have been growing Cascade hops in my home gardens for about 10 years. No problems. Decided this past summer to add a few Magnum rhizomes for bittering hops. I chose Magnum for their reputation of vigor, productivity, and disease resistance. The Magnums came up with vigor to rival the Cascades right off the bat. Grew and produced hop flowers great until some time in July when all at once the leaves started turning brown. The Magnums were within a few feet of the Cascades which never exhibited the problem. Has anyone else experienced this? What could have been the problem? My best guess is that it has something to do with rain. We had quite a bit of mid-summer rain this year, but as I said, it didnt hurt the Cascades. Thanks in advance

Most likely the Magnums got water-logged because the root system wasn't very big. Should be fine next year.
