Default not enough water?

So my cascade has been starting to make a lot of little hops over the last couple weeks. I went out of town this weekend so I watered right before I left on Thur. When I came back today some of the little hops look sort of shriveled up. Could it be that they didn't get enough water and dried up?

Hops like a lot of water, keeping the ground constantly slightly moist makes them very happy (you don't want it to be swampy though.) If the dirt around the hops dried out, they probably didn't have enough water over the weekend.
