Default Hops?

Does anybody know of a hop that grows at a low height and is good for brewing beer? Also able to grow in central new York?

From what i've heard, Nugget is pretty tolerant of northern climates. It will die back during the frost of winter and then break the soil again in the spring. The first year, it might not produce much and it should be grown in regions that get at least 180 frost free days per year.

Since hops is actually a vine, it can be grown vertically or horizontally. Commercial growers will wrap the vines around a pole, whereas a home grower can trellis it to pretty much any type of trellis system with a wire. Think about a grape vine approach.

The Northeast Hop Growers Alliance is also probably a wealth of info for you:

Might I suggest Centennial or Cascade - They both throw more smaller bines from the crown instead of a few big primary bines. This makes them "bushier" (is that a legit term?) They take trimming better, also.
Nugget throws a few big primary bines but may be easier to train horizontal like grapes.
