Would a rain collection barrel be feasible for your area? They can't enforce a ban on water you have collected only on the public supply I would imagine.

You cant use water from the outside pipes. BUT if it comes from indoors you can (don't ask why bc they both come from the same source). Rain barrels might work due to its a collection thing.

But our lakes that supply water to use I believe were 50% dry if not worse. It made it all over national news as a crisis over the winter saying we had 3 months or so left of water.

heh sorry for hijacking

I trust your dogs aren't interested in the hops orfy? Hops are toxic to dogs (but I suppose eveyone already knows this) I want to grow some hops in my garden, but I'm worried cos we have a new pup who eats anything and everything in the garden!

Sorry if I'm preaching to the converted, been a long while since I posted on these forums.

Hey Blighty.
Nice pup. Is it pedigree? Looks it. Mine are muts.

Yeah thanks. The hop cones are higher than the dogs can reach plus they have plenty to eat and apart from grass I've never seen them eat any vegitation.

I've had hops for 4 years now and no problems.

Yeah, she's a border collie. Mad as a box of frogs, more energy than Saudi Arabia and as intelligent as Einstein, she's a fantastic dog and I'd hate to kill her with my hobby! Do the hops "drop" at all? If they don't, then maybe it could be safer than I think..

I don't think they do drop. I've never noticed it.

These pictures have me hot to grow hops, but SWMBO would harvest my tender buds, I'm afraid. One of my main brewbuddies put some hops on his house a few years ago. Let's see... that would've been about two years before his divorce. Alas.

Orfy, you have a first-rate beer-sipping yard there.

Those pics have got me ready to grow some hops! I can almost smell them from here!

Hmm... Hops are toxic to dogs, and so is dark chocolate... I wonder if anyone has ever tried to put hops into chocolate. Sounds like it might make a nice treat (not for dogs).

I will soon have pictures of my soon to be hop garden.... just raked off most of the mulch the other day.

OOO anyone know of any safe to use weed killer stuff for a hop garden? I haven't looked outside in the backyard in years to see if the weeds are still rampant over the spring-fall but in winter time the place is just trees.
