Yeah, a nice little oasis you have there.

Does anybody have photos of vines growing horizontally along a fence?
I'm trying to decide if I want to set them up running horizontally along a wood fence or if I should attach some long poles to the fence with stringers and go vertical.

I would say Cheshire gets a little more rain then Corrales. The yard looks very inviting.

Default Hops on fence

My father has a wooden fence that he lets his hops (which bear no cones ) climb up. They weave in and out of the points at the top and along the uppermost horizontal part, and go both ways. They don't get quite enough sun, which I think is why they don't bear much, but the bines still get 15-20' long.

If you didn't have a big herb garden in front of the fence like Dad does, it would be fairly easy to harvest them because they wouldn't be too high.

However, the backside of the leaves may not get enough air, so you'd be at higher risk of mildew.

Yes, that *is* beer. Water, malt, hops, and yeast mean it's beer. Go ahead and try a glass...

Orfy, I love that back yard. It is something to aspire to.
I keep trying to figure out how to grow hops in my yard but there really isn't any part of it that get a decent amount of sun. Too many large trees shading the yard . I have to grow my tomatoes on my roof.
Luckily my parents don't live too far away and they have a good sized farm with plenty of room for hops. I just need to work out some kind of watering system. I'm thinking of setting up some rain barrels to collect water of of the pole barn.

I think that would make a fantastic wallpaper if you wouldn't mind.
