Default Hop Height

So these guys have had an adventure over their first year from a move from Texas in containers to sprouting in the basement in the winter to their final place in the ground. So now I'm transplanting from the containers to the ground and the only thing the wife has agreed on for posts are these 8 foot bamboo poles. By the time they are in the ground, there's 6 or 7 feet of pole to string twine to. Is this enough? Maybe more bines per plant to compensate? Any thought on how to make this work besides a divorce?

your holding them back man! they need more!! you might be able use BYO's container method of letting them grow up to the top and repeat. or you could put a pole at the crown and another 20 ft away with twine between and train them to grow horizontally. technically all you are using is the 8 ft poles but still getting 20 ft of growth.

you might be able to set it up like a tent but then you'd have to calculate how far away from the pole in the center to equal a longer growing length to get to the top of the pole.

Twine from the top of the poles to somewhere else like the house or garage works.

Hops will bush-out big time with an 8 ft pole. What diameter pole are you using? Anything less than 2" probably won't hold up in a wind storm.
