The tea maker hops looked like they were about dead. I pulled all the leaves (powdery mildew, bug eaten) and now it's growing like crazy again. I planted these using miracle grow top soil and black gold compost 50/50. They are in the ground. I put in a drip hose to avoid getting mildew again.

Sounds like trying to grow tomatoes on miami beach! I had to be so aggressive with pesticides that I was afraid to eat them!

Can't recommend the stuff enough, try using Organocide. I use it for my hops and peppers. It's all natural and works extremely well.

Thanks! If it can keep the tomatoes relatively free of creepy crawlies it should work on everything else. Ordered it! I'll keep you posted.

Welcome....Probably too late now but they sell it at Home Depot. I get the premixed kind that comes in a spray bottle.

I'd go with one of the "C" varieties and if possible order a hop crown from Great Lakes Hops.

Hey guys, turtle tank water can be a great source of nitrogen but I would just make sure salmonella is too big to get stored in the hops, the way giardia gets stored in raspberries that grow by dormant bodies of water. Just wouldn't want anyone getting sick.

PS I've been calling the Ag dept guys at UF and they have been really helpful when I have questions

That's something I did think about and make sure to wash up well after handling the bines or cones. As far as using them though, salmonella is killed when boiled so as long as your not using them for dry hopping they should be fine.
Good to know I can call the UF Ag dept. Another reason why I love the Gators!
