Default Can you leave cones on the vine too long?

I live approx. 2 1/2 hours from my parents house where my garden is and I will not be able to make that trip to be able to harvest for a little over a week due to work. From what they have told me, about 75% of cones on the vine are browning and those that are have a papery feeling (ready to pick I think). My question is if I should go ahead and have them pick these and lay them out to dry or would these cones be affected negativity in any way by allowing them to stay on the vine for 7-10 more days? My three varieties are centennial, columbus, and magnum and they are growing in the Piedmont area NC. Thanks.

They will continue to turn brown if you leave them on the vine. Brown = bad. Usually, when I start seeing a few brown cones, I'll pull a green one down and rip it open. If it smells good, I'll harvest the entire plant.

Pick them. If they are light and papery and return to shape after a light squeeze then pick them. Throw the brown ones out. Hopfarmer has a good video on how to check.
