Default Any News On Hop Shortage?

I was interested in what's become of the hop shortage. I don't seem to hear any banter about it at the homebrew shop and haven't seen it mentioned on here in a while (while admittedly not reading every thread on here).

It does seem like demand is probably increasing, with more and more brewpubs opening up. I did a google new search on 'hop shortage' and got just one result, from NZ.

I remember hearing during the initial scare that it was going to take years to recover, anyone have any industry news/data on this or even seen circumstantial events locally?

Here's a link to news on this year's shortage...I hope. I haven't tried a link from the HBT app, yet.

Apart of realizes this is a semi big deal. On the other hand I've got 14 plants in my back yard and I'm putting 4 plants on my mothers property. I can't remember the last time I bought hops. Lol. I guess I'm officially a nano grower.

I talked to my local home brew shop and he has had things on back order for a very long time some hops and mis brew items. he opened his shop about 3 years ago in a a gramma and granpa town and is booming like hell there. i think we are gonna have shortages at the smaller shops as the bigger shops can use there weight to get there invetory. my thought is people in this country get a tast of a killer beer there friend brewed in there basement is causing a problem with everyone not wanting to drink horse piss. so between the micro brewers and homebrewer shops. grow your own hops out back.i apolagize im piss drunk on home brew so im part of the problem i guess

It seems that Simcoe and Amarillo are in short supply again. I went to my local HBS, and they simply can't get Simcoe. I have to order it online from one of the big boys.

Honestly didn't realize we were in yet another short-hop-supply cycle. I had my 2012 hop orders in by early September and they've all been delivered (Citra, Amarillo, Cascade, Chinook, Simcoe, all in type 90 pellets). Between that and my home grown Cascade, Centennial and Chinook leaf I'm probably all set.

fwiw, I just trawled around via Google for awhile and all of those are still available if you dig through the hits deep enough, though some outfits are limiting the per-purchase amounts...

Cheers!
