1st year hops bine stopped growing
One of the bines on my first-year Magnum hops stopped growing over a week ago. It's about 6" tall now and it looks like there's no longer a shoot coming up out of the center. There are also some lesions near the base. Is it okay to cut this and throw it away? The rhizome has one climbing bine already and three other smaller ones.

Yes, you can cut it. I'd probably leave it alone though unless it appears to be hurting the other bines.

I would leave it. Sounds like a critter may have gotten to it or an insect. Watch for signs of attackers, if it's an animal, you may need to put some chicken wire around it. If it's an insect, you will have to identify the insect and deal with it accordingly.
