Default Question

This is my 3rd batch, my first 2 were really active. But I have no airlock action going on about 18 hours later. I think I may have added the yeast when the wort was too warm. I added it when it was about 85-90 degrees. So my question is how can I tell if its fermenting? Is 18 hours too soon to take a reading?

If it was under 100 degrees, you didn't kill the yeast- so fermentation should start soon. Before active fermentation starts, the yeast will reproduce first so it looks like nothing is happening. Wait at least 48 hours before even thinking about it!
