Default How I spent my day off yesterday...

So I manage to weasel my way into a real brewery for a brewday. In all honesty, the brewer was more than happy to show me the ropes (for which I am hugely grateful). We brewed about 500 gallons of brown ale. I think I am most surprised in the similarities in the process between brewing at this scale and that of the homebrewer. I would assume in the larger, production based, breweries they have more technical and automted processes, but I am glad I saw a process where you still have to pull levers and diconnect/reconnect hoses.

Thats awesome.

The cleanup looks like quite a pain in the ass though. What do they do with their spent grain?

It was a pain, but I smiled the entire time.

Local farmer picks it up.

You haven't lived until you're inside of a mash tun! That's an awesome picture.
