Default Brewed a pumpkin ale last night...

I've got a nice fermentation going and it smells great. I used the Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale recipe I found on the board and I slightly modified it.

Looks good so far! How did you modify the recipe?

Let us know how it turns out!

For hops:
Instead of doing
1oz cascade - 60min
1oz cascade - 20 min
1oz fuggles - 15 min

I did:
2oz leaf Golding - 60 min
1oz Fuggles - 20 min
1oz Fuggles - 5 min

I also added an extra cinnamon stick at 20 min. And used American Ale II yeast instead of English.

I also cut down all the spices from 1tsp to 1/2 teaspoon.

Most of my modifications came from comments I saw when the recipe was posted......I'll try to find the recipe.

Don't worry about it - it's my recipe - you can find it in the dropdown under my user name. I was just curious about how you changed it. It really needed some adjustments, and it looks like yours will be an improvement. Check out the second post in the recipe thread to see how I'm going to brew it this year.

Hope it turns out great for you!

As I was typing that I was wondering if it was yours or not.....figured that's why you were asking.

Anyway, so far it appears to be going great.

I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the recipe and tips!

edit: also used 5.5lbs of malt instead of 5lbs.

That looks nice. I've got all my stuff sitting in the kegerator ready to go (gotta crush the grains still) but one thing after another prevented me from brewing mine today.

Tomorrow is WIDE open.

I think you run the risk getting a "raw" flavor that way. Very interested to see how it turns out for you!

What kind of pumpkin flavor is it? Not like pumpkin pie I'm guessing, more like raw pumpkin?

My friends called mine "pumpkin pie beer." It was a big hit. It'll be even better this year without all the hops. The pumpkin flavor is very much like pumpkin pie - the malt adds sweetness, and the spices add a ton of character. It's awesome.
