Homebrew software
|
|
I've been throwing around the idea of investing in software to accompany myself during the brew. So...whats good and whats not, and is it even worth it?

+1 software helps a lot. Before BeerSmith i would use this free software: The Beer Recipator 2.2 and it was pretty good for being free.

If you're a mac user I suggest BeerAlchemy.
I see many free trial versions in your future.

I have been looking for a software like that, I just downloaded the Mac user BeerAlchemy program. The good news is, I won't have to write it down by hand and then enter it into a spread sheet! This is awesome!

I have heard that BeerSmith is a good one. It is probably the one I would get if I could step away from my 3 ring binder with printed spreadsheets! I just have not been able to make the leap yet.

Beersmith is great. For how much I use it, the price is a steal.
Some things I do with beersmith:
- formulate recipes
- calculate mash temps, sparge water, sparge temperature, strike temperature, amount of mash (according to whatever mash/water ratio I want)
- calculate amount of priming sugar I need according to style, ambient temperature and residual CO2
- adjust specific gravity readings for tempeature
- calculate attenuation
- get a great detalied brew sheet for brew day
- keep all of my brewing and tasting notes for a beer
- calculate decoctions if I'm feeling squirrely
