This beer has been in bottles just over a week... I tasted one today... fecking AWESOME. So smooth its not even funny, the lactose is not too intense and the cocoa is there, but subtle. You can really taste the smoothness of the oats and special b interacting.

Great beer, highly recommended.

Would you need to add the usual priming sugar at bottling time or would the chocolate do the job??

Ó Flannagáin 10-11-2007 05:47 PM

The cocoa powder is unsweetened, so you would definintely need priming sugar. Unless youa re kegging.

Extract version?

Ó Flannagáin 12-05-2007 02:26 AM

Quick conversion in beersmith I got

3lb dark liquid extract
4lb dry light extract

steep:
1.25lb oats flaked
1lb marris otter
.75lb chocolate wheat
.25 roasted barley
.25 special b

that might not be exact same beer but shoul be really good and pretty dang close. That is for a 5 gallon batch, not 5.5 like the all grain batch.

Where did you get this cocoa from? Any particular reason you used this brand? Looks rather expensive, $10 for one bag, but if it's worth it....I'm game.

What would you do with that second cocoa addition if kegging?
