Finally got around to brewing NCBeernut's recipe yesterday (extract) and it really smelled and looked great. Some buddies stopped by and every one of them noticed the coffee aroma immediately. I used Denny's Fav for the yeast and as of this morning it was going to town. Thanks again for the recipe and I'll check back in a while to let you know how it comes out...

Pic is from a blackberry...sorry about the quality...

Just tried the Deception Stout--it came out really great! As an fyi, I brewed the exact extract recipe as suggested by NCBeernut, including using Denny's Fav yeast. I did not use a secondary and left the batch in the fermenter for 30 days before bottle conditioning for two weeks on the dot. The beer has a great head and is well carbonated. You get a definite coffee aroma with a hint of chocolate or caramel and the beer goes down smooth as silk with a really nice finish. I am interested to see how this one ages if I can hide a few from myself and my buddies. I am also going to do the all grain version and will let you know how it comes out. Here is a lame blackberry pic but you get the idea...

Thanks much for sharing the recipe and your advice NCBeernut, I really appreciate it...

OK, so I went to bottles today ...

Here is the result - I kept well off the bottom when going from Primary to secondary, and again when going to bottle bucket. Primes with Extra Light DME.

I started bottling one clear bottle for observation, a few greens for my " carb test" bottles, and ambers for enjoyment.

Brew day went well except my OG was off the charts at 1070!
Glad I went with the blow-off.

Brewed last night. All grain. Sample tasted good. Ended up with little too much wort. Wrong calculation on my part. Live and learn. Fermentation started in about 2 hours. Had to hook up blow off tube. Looking good.

Thanks for the recipe.

I just drank my last bottle from when I was brewing one gallon batches at the beginning of last year. It was amazing! That was also when I was learning about flaked barley. A pound goes into any brew now and DCS is a regular.

Body, body, body.

The best recipe I've tried first up. Most take a second try and a tinker to get right but this is beautiful after 3 weeks bottled. Thx again
