Partial - Scotty D's Gold N' Brown Ale
Recipe Type: Partial Mash Yeast: Fermentis Safale S-04 Yeast Starter: n/a Additional Yeast or Yeast Starter: n/a Batch Size (Gallons): 5 Original Gravity: 1.063 Final Gravity: 1.017 IBU: 18.9 IBU Boiling Time (Minutes): 90 mins. Color: 18 SRM Primary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): 8 Days @ 70F Additional Fermentation: n/a Secondary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): n/a Tasting Notes: This is a lighter tasting English brown that doesn't have all that much bite.
After brewing and tasting my first English Brown, I decided I wanted to create my own with less of the dark bitterness that other Browns leave on the palette.
5lbs. Amber Dry Malt Extract
2lbs. Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (milled)
8oz. Dextrin (milled)
.5oz. Brewer's Gold Hops
.5oz. Fuggles Hops
.5oz. Goldings Hops
Steep 2lbs. Caramel/Crystal 60L and 8oz. Dextrin @ 150F for 25 mins.
Dissolve 5lbs. Amber Dry Malt Extract into brewpot.
Bring to boil and hop for 40 mins with 1/2 oz. of Brewer's Gold Hops.
Add 1/2 oz. of Fuggles Hops for 15 mins.
Add 1/2 oz. of Goldings Hops to finish the boil for 10 mins.
Mix in necessary yeast nutrients.
Cool and transfer to fermenter to pitch Fermentis Safeale US-4.
Ends with a nice 6.0% ABV! |
