Default Partial - "Two Piece" Summer Rye

Recipe Type: Partial Mash
Yeast: US-05
Yeast Starter: nope
Batch Size (Gallons): 5.5
Original Gravity: 1.042
Final Gravity: 1.009
IBU: 22.1
Boiling Time (Minutes): 90
Color: 5.7
Primary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): 14 days at 63 deg
Secondary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): 7 days at 36 deg
Tasting Notes: Love the spiciness of the rye paired with these hops.

This is a hack on BM's Sterling Gold. My wife and I kicked this keg in no time. This was her favorite beer that I've made to date. My only tweak will be to adjust the seeds of paradise down a smidge this time. It doesn't take much in a light beer like this to be noticeable.

I am looking for a great summer beer to brew this week and I think I am going to try your recipe... What flavors does the Seeds of Paradise produce? What would your recipe be like if you did not add any orange or Coriander? Also I only have access to White Laps, any suggestions?

Seeds of Paradise will add a peppery zest as well as some citrus notes. It doesn't take much. In this recipe I used a 1 gram package. I think I'll cut that back a bit. Between that and the coriander, those spices really help the spiciness of the Rye malt "pop" in my opinion. The orange peel plays a big role for me. I only used bitter this time but I've also used a combo of both bitter and sweet in the past.

With respect to yeast, anything clean will work. WLP001 is fine. I've also used WLP029 (Kolsch) with success on this beer. That yeast has become my go to here lately. Enjoy!

I might try this recipe out. I am just afraid it might come out like a Blue Moon which I do not care for. Are those flavors minimal Or over powering?

It's nothing like Blue Moon, IMO. The clean yeast used allows this beer to drop really clear. Much more spicy than B Moon too.

You know I am going to give it a try... I might tweak it a bit with different hops. I have Vanguard, Willamette, Tradition, Hallertau, Fuggle, Cascade, maybe half an oz of sterling and Perle.
Any hop you recommend to replace or is it better to use what is in the recipe?
